OBSERVATIONAL

I've grown to love the observational technique in documentary filmmaking. It replicates a moral value I grew up in which was listen before you talk. Just as listening before you talk observational allows you to watch and learn with little imput. I say little input because what is being observed most of the time is something new the viewer. The observational documentary makes you a follower. Not to close to the description of an instagram follower though. The camera focuses on what's most important. For the viewer what is most important is observing. My favourite observational documentary filmmaker is Kim Longinotto. My first interaction to her was through I=Divorce Iran Style and the love just grew from there. I honestly appreciate what she does for the technique. She has made over 20 films. Most of them are feminist films. I can't continue because it is 12. Seasons greetings
